The history behind IV nutrition
The most commonly known IV Nutrition Therapy is the Myers' Cocktail – created over 30 years ago and named after the late John Myers, M.D.. Myers was a Maryland medical doctor who used intravenous injections of nutrients to treat many chronic conditions.
Currently, the nutrient cocktail has been popularized by Alan Gaby, M.D., a physician who often writes about the role of nutrition in medicine. Conditions such as asthma, headaches & migraines, fibromyalgia, acute muscle spasm, upper respiratory tract infections, chronic sinusitis, seasonal allergies, and cardiovascular disease have been found to respond favorably to this treatment, and Gaby has used it to help thousands of patients find relief over the years. He even observed improvements in athletic performance when including this treatment in their regimen!
Most experts believe the Myers’ Cocktail works by increasing the blood concentration of several essential vitamins and minerals beyond that which can be achieved when taking orally. There are several variations of the Myers’ Cocktail and Med • Studio uses a variation of the Meyers’ Cocktail that helps increases energy with the added benefits of the traditional formula.
What should I expect?
Everyone starts with the Myers Original Cocktail to make sure your body likes to receive micro-nutrients this way. A small catheter is inserted into a vein, and the infusion is given slowly over 30-60 minutes. Side effects are rare and usually limited to local irritation of the vein. The most common sensations are heat and flushing (a magnesium effect), and the taste of vitamins after the infusion begins. Results vary by person, and many people report feeling more energy and quicker recovery from illness. Optimal effects are usually felt by the fourth visit.
How often should I get this treatment?
You should always check with your provider before beginning any treatment, but many patients with chronic conditions or seeking preventative help choose to receive infusions every 1-4 weeks, or whenever they feel their energy slipping.
Once you’ve received a Myers' and tolerated it well, you’ll be eligible (per provider) to receive other nutrient combinations, including customized formulas tailored to your specific needs.
