What is Hormone Therapy?

Hormone therapy is a treatment that helps both men and women who have problems with their hormones. Hormones control many things in our bodies, like how we feel, our energy levels, and even our sleep.

When hormones get out of balance, it can cause issues like feeling tired all the time, gaining weight, feeling sad, or having trouble with intimacy. Hormone therapy works to fix these problems by balancing the hormones, which can help people feel better overall.

Current Types of Hormone Therapy

There are two main types of hormone therapy: Traditional Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) and Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT).

  • Traditional HRT: This uses hormones made in a lab that are similar to the body’s natural hormones but not precisely the same. While it’s been used for a long time, some studies have shown it might have risks like increasing the chance of certain cancers or heart problems.

  • Bioidentical HRT: This type uses hormones that are exactly like the ones our bodies naturally produce. These hormones are often made from plants and are thought safer, with fewer side effects. Many people prefer this type because it feels more natural to them.

Challenges with Current Therapies

Even though these therapies can help, they could be better. It can be hard to find the right hormone balance for each person, and sometimes, people don’t respond well to the treatments.

Your medical provider might often adjust the therapy to get the best results.
