My Body is a Little Off

I learned that our hormones are designed to be in balance and work together like a beautiful symphony in order for us to feel, act, and look our best.

My period stopped when I was 45, but years before my final cycle, my body began to show signs of hormone imbalance.

“Menopause is a normal part of life, just like puberty. You may notice changed in your body before and after menopause. The transition usually has three parts: perimenopause, menopause, and post-menopause. Changes usually begin with perimenopause. This can begin several years before your last menstrual period. Menopause comes next, the end of your menstrual period. After a full year without a period, you can say you have been “through menopause,” and perimenopause is over. Post-menopause follows menopause and lasts the rest of your life. The average age of a women having her last period – menopause – is 51. But, some women have their last period in their forties, and some have it later in their fifties.”[1]  

For many women, this process is a smooth transition and goes unnoticed with no symptoms, but for others this seemingly normal part of life is not normal for them at all.

Be reassured that barring an underlying medical condition that sets off premature menopause, the age when perimenopause begins is simply individual to your own body. Symptoms during this time vary for each of us.
