What is the O Shot?
The O Shot is essentially a PRP (platelet-rich plasma) injection that encourages natural healing, regrowth or regeneration of both soft tissues and skin tissues by improving your body’s ability to produce collagen. Collagen is an element that helps tissue to maintain tautness and firmness. This natural collagen is the same thing that gives the skin on your face elasticity and fewer wrinkles. The O Shot was specifically designed for women with stress incontinence – having to cross your legs when you sneeze, laugh, or cough – although many women also noticed improvements in their sexual lives after receiving the O Shot. Due to sexual dysfunction or painful intercourse being a common and uncomfortable condition for many women, the O Shot is now offered to address some of the issues that can affect sexual health as well. While sexual dysfunction or painful intercourse is more common after having children or reaching menopause, it can affect women of any age due to other factors such as medical conditions or stress.
The O Shot can be beneficial for any woman experiencing symptoms such as:
- Incontinence (both stress and coital)
- Pain during sex
- Low sexual desire or arousal disorder
- Inability to reach orgasm
What are platelets?
The blood is made up several types of blood cells. The three main types are: red blood cells, which are important for carrying oxygen throughout our body; white blood cells, which are necessary to fight off infections; and platelets, which are responsible for our body’s healing process. For example, when you cut your finger, the blood that rushes to the open wound contains platelets, which is ultimately responsible for clotting and stopping the flow of blood from leaving your body. Platelets release enzymes which help to create the protective scab that forms, allowing your skin to rejuvenate and heal with as little scarring as possible.
What is the process?
We start out by drawing a few vials of your blood, the same process completed when you’re getting a standard blood test performed. We use specially designed and pre-coated vials that are meant to extract the proper nutrients and cells needed for the procedure when the tubes are placed into a centrifuge. Centrifuging will bring all of the blood’s platelets and a few other essential elements to the surface for easy extraction.
Once injections are prepared, the entire genital area is numbed with a local anaesthetic. The platelet rich O Shot is then strategically injected into the genital area including the G spot. Many patients state that they feel pressure, but no pain during administration.
Patients are typically recommended to avoid some activities for a couple of days in order to assist in the healing process and to allow the PRP injection to fully perform.
How does it work?
One of the most beneficial reasons to use PRP Injection as a therapy is that it uses completely natural substances from your own body to achieve results, decreasing any risks of an allergic reaction and no harmful side effects. PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, contains human growth factors which stimulate and aid your body’s own tissues through their natural rejuvenation process. In simplified technical terms, the O Shot treatment will improve the blood flow around your genital area, thus increasing the creation of your natural collagen and allowing your tissues to healthily and naturally renew.
Most women experience quick results and can continue to see improvement over the course of several months.
Results experienced by women after receiving the O Shot include:
- Improved bladder control
- Strengthening of vaginal walls
- Tighter vaginal skin and increased sensitivity
- Increased vaginal lubrication and sexual arousal
- Ability to reach orgasm and/or experience stronger orgasms
- Relief from pain during sex
- Reduction in menopausal symptoms
Because the O Shot, full of platelet-rich plasma, encourages blood flow many women begin to feel rejuvenated in both their day-to-day lives as well as their sexual experiences. The O Shot is often long-lasting and if the patient finds it necessary, can be re-administered in the future.
